Installing an unsigned app

Vibe Motion isn't code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS warn you the first time you open it. Here's how to get past those warnings. You can check that your download is genuine by comparing its SHA-256 with the one shown above.

Windows

When you run the installer, SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC".

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.
  3. Follow the installer.

Antivirus tools are sometimes wary of new unsigned apps. To check the file, run this in PowerShell and compare the result with the SHA-256 above:

Get-FileHash $HOME\Downloads\VibeMotion-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Vibe Motion into Applications.
  2. Open Vibe Motion. macOS blocks it the first time because it isn't notarized; click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to the message about Vibe Motion. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
  4. When macOS asks whether Vibe Motion may record system audio, click Allow. Vibe Motion listens to what your Mac is playing so the visuals follow the music. The sound is analysed on your Mac and never recorded or sent anywhere.

On macOS 14 you can also Control-click the app and choose Open.

After each update

Because the app isn't code-signed, macOS treats every update as a new app and may ask again for:

  • System Audio Recording: click Allow. If the visuals stop reacting, check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
  • Microphone, only if you chose a microphone or another input as the audio source in Vibe Motion: click Allow.

To check the file, run this in Terminal and compare with the SHA-256 above:

shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/VibeMotion.dmg
